Good book, slow shipping

I ordered a used copy of a history textbook last month. The book's condition was accurately described and it was a good price. Shipping took a little longer than I expected, around 10 days to reach me in California, which was a bit inconvenient when I needed it for a class. Overall, a decent experience.

Rare edition purchase

I bought a rare first edition of a fantasy novel through AbeBooks a few weeks ago. The ordering process was straightforward; I used their search filters to find exactly what I was looking for. I communicated with the seller about the book's condition, and they were very responsive and provided extra photos, which helped me make an informed decision. The book arrived securely packaged, and its condition was exactly as described, if not slightly better, which was a pleasant surprise for a collectible. Shipping costs felt a bit high, but that's often the case with specialized items. Tracking worked well and it reached me in about a week. I'd definitely use them again for hard-to-find books.

Found an old favorite

I was looking for an out-of-print mystery novel I read years ago, and I found it on AbeBooks! The seller had it listed for a good price. It got here pretty fast, like five days. It was just what I wanted, felt good to hold that book again.

Hey, wondering about shipping times to, like, California. If I order a textbook today, will it get here before classes start next month?

J June 2 months ago
It really depends on the seller. Since they're all over the place, some ship super fast from within the US, others might take longer if they're international. You can usually see an estimate on the product page.

Yeah, I've had books show up in 3 days and some take 2 weeks. Always check the seller's info before you buy, they usually have their own shipping policies listed too.

What's the deal with returns if a book isn't what I expected? Is it a hassle?

T Troy Bennett 1 month ago
I returned a book once because the condition wasn't what was described, and it was pretty straightforward. You just initiate it through your order history, and the seller gives you instructions. Got my money back without too much fuss.

It's generally easy, but you might be on the hook for return shipping depending on why you're returning it. If it's seller error, they usually cover it.

Thinking about getting a few books from AbeBooks for a project, or maybe ThriftBooks. Anyone got experience comparing the two, especially for older or less common titles?

S Sarah Lindqvist 2 months ago
For really specific or rare stuff, AbeBooks is usually better because you're dealing with dedicated booksellers who specialize in that. ThriftBooks is more for common used books.

AbeBooks has way more variety for out-of-print and weird books. ThriftBooks is good for cheap paperbacks you don't care too much about the exact edition.

Is there usually a coupon for new customers, or maybe if you sign up for their email list?

J Julia V. 1 month ago
I got a discount when I first signed up for their newsletter, I think it was like 10% off. Worth checking!

Yeah, they usually have something like that. Also keep an eye out around holidays, they sometimes do bigger sales then.

Can I use PayPal on AbeBooks? Or is it just credit cards?

C Cleo Z. 1 month ago
Yep, they take PayPal. Used it last week for a bunch of art books.

They take most major credit cards too, but PayPal is definitely an option.
